Her professional career spans over five decades, and encompasses the stage, television, solo concerts, and recording. She's been nominated to seven Tony Awards and won two in addition to 8 Drama Desk Awards. She's won Grammy Awards for four of her Broadway recordings of cast. Peters started her acting career on stage in 1960s as an teen, then later in the 1970s, she worked in TV as well as film. Alongside her roles in The Muppet Show, The Carol Burnett Show, and in other TV work she was also praised for the roles that she been in Annie and Silent Movie. In the 80s, she went back to Broadway where for three decades she was one of Broadway's top stars. She also has recorded six solo albums and several singles, in addition to numerous cast albums.
